The International Journal of Librarianship (IJoL) is inviting submissions for a special issue titled Seeing Humanity in the Technology: Library Innovations in the Context of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) to be published in June 2025.
Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is impacting many aspects of academia, including library services and librarianship. It is important to see and value the human side during the changing processes brought on by this new technology. We need to build healthy relationships and a responsive research ecosystem.
This special issue therefore is calling for submissions of innovative studies from the library and related areas that will inspire more creative and positive applications of GenAI in future library research, library services and librarianship. We encourage a human-centered approach that values the well-being of our service population, helping their growth and saving their time and effort as part of re-emphasized professional ethics. For example, we encourage submissions to showcase how to use technology such as GenAI to meet expressed yet unmet needs creatively.
Areas of interest for this special issue include but are not limited to:
- Collection development
- Library instruction
- Research services, such as research consultations
- New library services
- Research data management
