Jinwei Yan's Brief Biography

Jinwei Yan's photoJinwei Yan (燕今伟) received his BA in Library Science in 1982 from Wuhan University. He completed advanced study at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1987-1988. He was a visiting scholar at the Kent State University in 1998-1999.

Currently Jinwei is the Director of the South University of Science and Technology of China Library. Prior to this position, he has been the Director of the Wuhan University Library for 15 years (1998-2013).

Jinwei has served various library committees and societies, including the Steering Committee for Academic Libraries of China (Member, 2000- ; Vice-Chairman, 2009- ); the Library Science Society of China (Member, 1985- ; Member of the Council, 2005-2013; Member of the Executive Council, 2010-2013); and the Library Science Society of Hubei Province (Member, 1985- ; Vice-Chairman of the council, 2001-2013)

Jinwei has led a number of grant supported research projects, such as the Construction and Management of Local Consortia of Academic Libraries in Network Environment funded by Education Committee of China (1999-2001), the Study on Development Policy of Information Resources, funded by Steering Committee for Academic Libraries of China (2006-2007), and the Digital Library Project of Higher Education of Hubei Province funded by Education Department of Hubei Province (2006-2008). He has also published over 30 scholarly Chinese/English articles to Journal of Academic Libraries, Library and Information Services, and Reference Services Review, etc.
